They did things differently in those days no 1,832: Open University vice chancellor John Daniel interviewed for Lifting It Off The Page, a lively volume of OU personal memoirs, recalls the interviews for his first academic post, conducted in Paris in 1968: "In the middle of the 68 upheavals, this guy came along and, because of the upheavals, my interview took place in the bar at Orly airport, and it took me two beers to get myself hired as an assistant professor at the University of Montreal. I then spent 21 years in Canada."
