Edinburgh University's centre for human ecology last week held a press conference protesting against the previous day's announcement by the university that it was unlikely to renew the contracts of the centre's two staff in the coming session (see story above). Alistair McIntosh, whose post as MSc course director is under threat, explained that numbers at the press conference were swelled by his teenage daughter, Catriona's attendance as this was "Take Your Daughter to Work" day. This annual event was intended to give young women an insight into the world of work, Mr McIntosh said, "So Catriona has come along to observe the process of her dad being fired."
