Our Learning Support Officers are here to help guide and support students with specific learning support needs or impairments. They will work with you to understand how your condition may affect your studies, discuss options available to you and co-ordinate reasonable adjustments to support you. Needs/conditions include: 

  • A sensory or mobility impairment;
  • A long-term illness or physical or mental health condition;
  • A specific learning difference (SpLD) such as dyslexia, dyspraxia or ADHD;
  • A social or communication difficulty such as autism spectrum condition.

Sharing your disability with us

We encourage you to contact us as soon as possible if you think you will need extra support. We can then ensure that this is put into place for when you start your course.

The reasonable adjustments will be recorded in a Student Support Plan which will be sent to staff on a ‘need-to-know’ basis but details of your condition will not be shared outside the Student Wellbeing and Disability Support team without your permission. Information you relating to your physical or mental health constitutes sensitive personal data. Please see our Confidentiality Policy for more information.

If you are a current student, you can notify the University of your condition on EVE, or email studentsupport@cranfield.ac.uk. A Learning Support Officer will then contact you to arrange an appointment to discuss your needs.

Appointments

Our advisors offer students one-to-one consultations where we can discuss:

  • How your condition is affecting your studies; 
  • What adjustments can be made to enable you to get the most out of your studies; 
  • Special examination arrangements, where applicable;
  • Liaising with academic, accommodation and support staff, to ensure support is put in place;
  • Guidance on further diagnostic assessments options;
  • Advice on Neurodivergence conditions including dyslexia and other Specific Learning Differences (SpLDs);
  • Advice on Disabled Student's Allowances (DSA) and other available funding;
  • Neurodivergence screening process;
  • ߣߣÊÓƵ's Dyslexia Policy and Student Disability Policy;
  • Guidance on getting a diagnosis through the NHS.

Do I need evidence of a condition or learning support need?

Students do not need to provide evidence of a condition to access support from the Student Wellbeing and Disability Support Team.

We encourage students to contact us with any information and/or evidence relating to a learning support need or a condition which meets the criteria under the Equality Act 2010. Information provided enables the Learning Support Officers to arrange support or implement reasonable adjustments through a Student Support Plan to assist and support you in your studies.

We would recommend reviewing the useful document  which outlines examples of information and evidence.

Evidence and information provided must clearly display your personal information, i.e. name, date of birth, address etc.

Evidence and information provided must be signed and dated by the professional and be in English.

Where evidence or information is not in English it must be accompanied by a translation certified by a public notary, accredited translator (member of the Association of Translation Companies) or a member of ߣߣÊÓƵ staff (as approved by the Student Casework Team or the Head of Registry Services).
