Background

Kevin de Castro Cogle is currently undergoing his PhD studies under the supervision of Prof. Fady Mohareb and Dr. Maria Anastasiadi, in co-tutelle with the Université de technologie de Compiègne (supervisors Prof. Claire Rossi and Dr. Mirian Kubo).

Previously, Kevin graduated with a BSc and a double-degree MSc in the subjects of Biotechnology and Applied Bioinformatics at the Universities of Oviedo and ߣߣÊÓƵ, finishing his studies in 2018. Prior to commencing his PhD, Kevin gained industrial experience working as a researcher in POCt biosensor development and as bioinformatics software engineer at a cloud-based bioinformatics platform.

Research opportunities

- PhD topic: study of bioactive compounds in food that suffer from inefficient absorption during digestion, with the purpose of being able to predict which food formulations optimise the oral delivery of the compound of interest. The main hypothesis of his work is that, using in vitro rapid screening methods for testing numerous food formulations and compounds, the properties of the carrier food formulation that most impact the degree of absorption of a compound of interest can be mathematically modelled and applied to predictive purposes.

- Other collaborations: automation of manufacturing processes in POCt biosensor R&D using software engineering and Machine Learning, development of bioinformatic processing workflows for massively parallel sequencing, and consultation in clinical projects such as modelling the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer with somatic mutation data.
