As a sponsor of INWED, ߣߣÊÓƵ takes pride in delivering an event each year to engage young people with the possibilities of engineering.
This year’s theme of inventors and innovators played well into ߣߣÊÓƵ’s strengths and ambitions.
Students from local secondary schools visited ߣߣÊÓƵ, spending a day with us at our INWED 2022 launch event. They met current Astronautics and Space Engineering students to build stomp rockets, illuminating Newton’s Third Law of Motion. Next, they found out about various manufacturing and materials innovations including smart solar windows and their energy-saving potential to control light and infra-red energy entering and leaving buildings, as well as learning about the development of chemical recycling techniques. Students joined a talk about the ߣߣÊÓƵ circular toilet, learning about providing safe and hygienic facilities to those without plumbing – and reducing water usage. Finally, students enjoyed a showcase session of our Digital Aviation Research and Technology Centre on research and innovation in the aviation industry.
After returning to school, students submitted posters to showcase their favourite parts of the day. We are delighted to welcome the winning school back to campus to celebrate INWED 2022 on 23 June at a special DARTeC event hosted in partnership with our DARTeC consortium partners.
